Coming in Term 3 – Begged, Borrowed, Broken Down and Set Free

COMING IN TERM 2 – BEGGED, BORROWED, BROKEN DOWN AND SET FREE

“Oh, it’s not such a bad little tree tune, not bad at all really.  Maybe it just needs a little love” Linus in Charlie Brown’s Christmas

The starting point for many beginners to Irish music in Australia is the collection Begged Borrowed and Stolen. However intermediate musicians often get frustrated with these tunes ‘not sounding right’, and more advanced players will tell you that these tunes have been done to death or are boring because they are always played badly.

Dave O’Neill firmly stands with Linus – there’s no such thing as a bad old tune – only a tune in need of some love, understanding….and some liberation from literal translations off the page.

In this course Dave takes a surprising turn for a Traditional Irish player. He invites you to bring your music stands, your bright orange book as well as your ears and an open mind. He’ll show you how the ‘dots’ are shorthand – a skeleton – rather than the rule book – and give you a bag of skills, tricks and tips to make these tunes sound alive and true to the aural Irish music tradition.

8 students only starting Term 3 (July)

We’ve had a few enquiries about group ukulele classes and are trying to work out it’s viability.

If you would be interested in attending a group ukulele class (possibly 6.00 to 6.45 pm  or 6.15 to 7.00 pm on a Tuesday night ) starting a week or two into the school term please email  daveoneillmusic@gmail.com
